"Nick, we need to talk." Adriana's voice was serious and so was the expression on her face. Looking across the seat at Nick she would turn slightly, her hand on the door of the car as she let out a soft little sigh. It was hard to say what she wanted to say. She had been with him for six years and even though he had never been faithful, and Adriana hadn't been for the past three years. He was a chapter in her life that she knew she needed to finish but was hesitant about. Not because she didn't know what she wanted, she knew, but because she didn't know how Nick was going to react.
"What is it Ana?" he asked as he looked to her, his brows furrowing a little bit as he saw how nervous she was. Nick knew what was coming, he could feel it and the anger inside of him was already beginning to brew as his hands clenched the steering wheel in front of him.
"I don't think we should be with each other any more." she said it quickly, her eyes looking over his face as she gripped the handle that would open the car door if she needed to make her escape.
Nick wasn't sure what to say at first, he knew it was a long time coming, but what he was curious about was, why then? Why not before and what had happened now that would make her want to leave him after being together so long. Nick knew he wasn't a good boyfriend, he knew he wasn't a nice guy, but that didn't change the fact that he considered Adriana to be his and that he wasn't quite sure if he was ready or willing to just let her go. The other girls he had been with while dating her didn't mean as much to him as Adriana did, and even if they two hadn't been intimate in over a year, she was still his in his eyes. "Is there someone else?" his voice was gruff and he looked into her eyes, knowing he could read her like a book if she were to lie to him.
Adriana didn't say anything for a few seconds, her eyes on Nick before she just simply looked down. She knew she couldn't lie to him, she wasn't a good liar when it came to people she knew. Lying to strangers, easy. Playing a part, easy. But lying to someone that she had known for the past six years, not so easy. "I just think it's better this way." she said simply and she slipped out of the car, closing the door and then speaking through the cracked open window. "I'll come by tomorrow to pick up my..." Her voice trailed off as Nick sped out of the driveway and down the street.

"You are not leaving me for some other guy Ana. I won't fucking have it!" Nick's voice could be heard ringing throughout his apartment as Adriana began packing up her things. She felt a squeeze around her bicep and was soon jerked into his chest. A frightened look came over her face as she just stared up at him. Adriana was used to him fighting with her and even used to him grabbing and hitting her, but she was not used to the look in his eyes. Never before was he losing her, and never before was he this angry.
"Nick, I'm leaving you because you do this. If you weren't so abusive and you were actually faithful I wouldn't have started seeing Ty..." his name was cut off when she felt his grasp grow harder around her arm. "Nick, let go, you're hurting me." He jerked her into him again and then pushed her away. Adriana fell to the floor, her head hitting against the edge of the dresser. She grasped the side of her head and looked to him.
"You are not leaving me..." Nick yelled and he made another move towards her, his hand coming down to slap her across the face.
The fight went on for quite a bit longer before Nick's roommate Troy walked into the room. Adriana's bruised and nearly broken body was huddled in the corner as Nick threw anything he could get his hands on around the room. Troy's hand gripped Nick's arm and pushed him aside. Picking Adriana up he just gave a quick glare at Nick before carrying her out of the room. "Ana, are you ok?" he finally asked as he set her down in the living room. She didn't look at him she just shook her head. "Let me take you home."
"Ok.." her voice was choked in her throat as she just simply nodded. Adriana just needed to get out of the situation. "Troy can you..." she felt the tears stream down her cheeks as she looked up at him. "Can you bring me my stuff this weekend. I'm moving back to Cleveland." When he agreed to bring her things over he picked her up again to bring her downstairs. Adriana's car windows were broken in, her tires slashed. Nick had gone on a rampage and there was no way she was safe in Buffalo any longer.
When she was finally dropped off at her grandparents house she looked across the seat to Troy. Adriana's cheeks were still stained with tears, her face red and starting to turn to various shades of black and blue in different spots. "Thanks Troy." her voice was soft and she let out a sigh as she made her way out of the car. Feeling a hand on her arm she looked to him, stopping herself from getting all the way out of the vehicle.
"If the guy you've been seeing treats you anything like Nick has..." Troy shook his head and he looked Adriana in the eyes. "If he treats you like him, think twice ok?"
"He doesn't." A bit of a smile curled to her lips and the tears had finally faded though her face still showed that she had been crying. "Tyler treats me like I'm a priceless jewel. He's amazing." She looked down, her smile growing even bigger as she thought about Tyler and how over the past three years he treated her, how he looked at her.
"Then as your best friend, he has my blessing. And don't worry. Nick is getting his ass beat as soon as I get back home." Troy released her arm and he smiled to her. "I'll bring your stuff by Saturday morning. I promise." When Adriana got out of the car he drove off. Her eyes watched his car go down the street, that smile on her face. That was it. She was no longer Nick's and could officially be Tyler's girl. |
